Futura Hotel was built
as an environmental friendly establishment.
Our environmental focus is based on three core principles:
• Reduction of energy intensity & improvement in energy
efficiency.
• Establishing a low carbon footprint.
• Recycling.
Reduction of Energy Intensity & Improvement in energy
efficiency
• All rooms’ power supply is activated through the use of a
special the key card, when guests are in the room.
• It provides electricity saving, increased safety and the
reduction of energy intensity.
Lighting
• Automatic activation of
lighting in all stair cases and gym, through the use of timed
and motion sensor lighting.
• Use of High performance Compact Florescent Lamps outputting a
100watts at a consumption of 11watts
• All exterior lights use CFLs and operate at a lower 12V in
comparison to conventional 240V
• All swimming pool lights use Par 56 LEDs
Hot water
• All Hot Water used in the bar, the restaurant and the rooms is
heated through the use photovoltaic cells (solar panels).
• Main geezer is heavily insulted resulting in reduction of heat
loss and energy use
Water saving
• Use of special filters on the taps and showers of the hotel;
they increase water pressure while reducing water consumption
• Agricultural water is used for watering hotel gardens.
• All toilets use a controlled dual flush mechanism to
efficiently regulate the flow and use of water.
Air-conditioning & Ventilation Systems
The ventilation and air-conditioning systems of the hotel use
low power consumption methods and reduce carbon emissions:
• All hotel rooms and windows are heat insulated and double
glazed. Results in a decrease in the amount of energy lost,
while well maintaining ideal room temperature. Hence,
air-conditioner use is minimised.
• We use a regulated air-conditioning pausing system which
deactivates air-conditioning in the rooms when the balcony doors
open.
Equipment
• All equipment used in the hotel from kitchen fridges to room
kettles and stoves carry an energy saving standard grade from
A-C
Recycling
Paper, Glass, Plastics
• Large blue waste collection bins have been placed outside the
hotel by Maleme municipality
• Use of recycled toilet paper, kitchen paper towels and plastic
packets. All bio-degradable.
• Hotel includes a water treatment facility for efficient use of
waste-water
Additional Materials
• Cooking oils are recycled for the production of bio-diesel.
• Sewage: Our sewage system is connected to our very own water
treatment facility below the hotel and is also connected to the
main sewage network of Chania. Final product destination is the
water treatment plant of Kolymvari.
• All paint used in hotel is environmentally friendly. i.e.
water soluble based
• All cleaning agents are biodegradable and ozone friendly
• All machinery lubricants and liquids are environmentally
certified.
